Like other Critical Mass events globally, the Los Angeles version is a social ride where cyclists gather to promote cycling as a mode of transportation, advocating for cyclist safety on L.A. city streets, promoting mental health, and fostering environmental state of camaraderie. Los Angeles Critical Mass encourages cycling daily while celebrating cycling as a group ride every month. Attracting a diverse group of riders, Los Angeles Critical Mass became the forefront and mother-lode of all Critical Mass rides in the U.S. Boasting with over 3000+ participants in each ride, they have become known as the largest community bicycle ride in the U.S.A.
With the continuous growth from the late 1990’s, in the early 2000’s, Los Angeles Critical Mass evolved to a lead vehicle leading the ride because of the growing number of participants.
