June marks Pride Month, a time when communities across Los Angeles come together to honor LGBTQ+ history, visibility, and resilience.
For Los Angeles Critical Mass, Pride is more than a celebration — it’s a reminder that public space, movement, and community belong to everyone. Cycling has long been intertwined with LGBTQ+ activism, from endurance rides that raise millions for life‑saving services to grassroots events that create safe, joyful spaces for queer Angelenos.
Cycling as Pride: A Legacy of Visibility and Activism
There is a deep connection between cycling and LGBTQ+ advocacy. Endurance rides like AIDS/LifeCycle and its successor, the Center Ride Out, have transformed the simple act of riding a bike into a powerful platform for fundraising, solidarity, and public visibility. In April 2026, the LA LGBT Center’s first‑ever Center Ride Out brought hundreds of cyclists together for a three‑day, nearly 200‑mile journey from Los Angeles to San Diego, raising more than $830,000 for LGBTQ+ healthcare, housing, education, and social services.
These rides embody the spirit of Pride: showing up, pushing forward, and claiming space — mile after mile — for a community that has fought for decades to be seen, heard, and protected.

Pride Across Los Angeles: A Citywide Celebration
Los Angeles hosts one of the most vibrant Pride seasons in the country, with events ranging from the iconic LA Pride Parade to neighborhood‑driven celebrations, queer‑led arts programs, and family‑friendly gatherings. Community groups across the city organize block parties, outdoor rides, cultural festivals, and creative workshops that uplift LGBTQIA+ voices and honor the theme of unity and resistance.
This year’s Pride programming continues to highlight the diversity of LA’s queer communities — from youth‑centered events to celebrations honoring queer elders and BIPOC LGBTQ+ leadership.

Why Pride Matters to LACM
Los Angeles Critical Mass has always stood for visibility, safety, and the right for every cyclist to move freely through the city. Pride Month aligns directly with our mission:
- Visibility: Pride reminds us that public streets must be safe and welcoming for everyone — including LGBTQ+ cyclists who still face discrimination and safety concerns.
- Community: LACM rides bring together thousands of cyclists from every background, creating a space where queer Angelenos, allies, families, and neighbors can show up authentically and be celebrated.
- Advocacy: Pride strengthens our commitment to safer streets, equitable mobility, and a city where all communities can thrive.
As LGBTQ+ organizations face funding cuts and rising challenges, community‑powered movements like LACM play an even more important role in amplifying visibility and supporting those who need it most.

Standing Together This June
Throughout Pride Month, LACM honors the LGBTQ+ cyclists, advocates, organizers, and allies who have shaped Los Angeles’ cycling culture. Whether through long‑distance charity rides, neighborhood Pride events, or our own monthly community ride, we celebrate the joy, resilience, and power of showing up together.
Pride is a reminder that movement is freedom — and when we ride as one, we make that freedom visible across the entire city.
