LACM Ride Rules

At Los Angeles Critical Mass, the safety and security of all our participants are always our highest priority.

These are the rules.

To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, Los Angeles Critical Mass has established the following mandatory rules. By participating, you agree to comply with this policy. Violations may result in removal from LACM and/or future participation bans.

Los Angeles Critical Mass ride rules:

1. We Are Not a Race
Los Angeles Critical Mass is a mass group cycling event designed for everyone to enjoy at a moderate pace as we ride to our destination and back. Relax, savor and enjoy the ride!

2. Keep a Safe Speed
Ride at a controlled pace, stay in line with the group, and maintain full control of your bike at all times. WE DO NOT CONDONE WHEELIES IN CROWDS! There are too many participants to perform extreme sports maneuvers such as wheelies. This can cause accidents and endanger our participants.

3. People-Powered Vehicles Only (Exceptions for e-bikes and scooters)
Only people-powered vehicles are permitted, such as bicycles, roller blades and skateboards. Electric scooters, hoverboards, and e-bikes are permitted. Anything that is gas powered is prohibited. This includes motorcycles, mopeds. mini-bikes and motorized bikes.

4. Be Mindful of Your Surroundings
Stay aware of other participants, including cyclists, skaters, and pedestrians, who may move in unexpected ways. Be respectful and cautious to ensure everyone’s safety.

5. Don’t Block the Route
If you need to stop for any reason—chatting, taking photos, or grabbing water—move to the far right of the ride to keep the route clear for others.

6. Pass on the Left
When overtaking another rider, always pass on the left. Announce your intentions clearly to avoid surprises and maintain safety.

7. Wear a Helmet
Helmets are required for anyone under 18 and are strongly recommended for all participants.

8. Seek Help When Needed
Our Volunteers, Ride Marshals and Support Vehicles are available to assist with repairs, or any concerns during the event. Don’t hesitate to ask for help.

9. Ride Safely
Follow instructions from our ride marshals. Do not ride onto oncoming traffic or on the wrong side of the road. This is dangerous. It is prohibited to ride on sidewalks in most cities.

Enjoy the ride, respect your fellow participants, and help create a safe and welcoming environment for all!
