Uniting community, creativity, and compassion on Halloween wheels
In a powerful show of unity and compassion, riders departed from our Koreatown meetup point and pedaled en masse to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, transforming the city into a moving festival of light, color, and care. The ride was part of a formal collaboration with the hospital, designed to bring joy and connection to young patients and their families facing serious illness.
From superheroes and skeletons to glowing ghosts and glittering fairies, the ride was a kaleidoscope of creativity. Participants lined the sidewalks and Sunset Boulevard, cheering as the procession passed, while hospital windows lit up with faces and wide smiles, a living reminder that joy can reach even the most unexpected places. For many of the children inside, it was a rare moment of levity and wonder—proof that the city hadn’t forgotten them.
One of the most unforgettable moments came courtesy of Spencer McCutcheon, a beloved regular of LA Critical Mass known for his towering double-decker bike and mesmerizing performances. That night, Spencer brought his signature Firesaw light show to the hospital grounds, dazzling young patients and families with a sparkling display of movement, light, and rhythm. It was more than entertainment—it was a spectacle of joy and brilliance.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank Spencer for sharing his art and spirit with the children. His presence turned a ride into a memory, and a moment into a radiant celebration.
Lisa Lundie, President of LA Critical Mass, led the ride and shared a powerful reflection:
“This year’s Halloween ride also marked a new chapter in LA Critical Mass’s evolving mission: to not only reclaim public space for cyclists but to channel our collective energy toward healing, inclusion, and joy. The ride was a reminder that movement is medicine—not just for the body, but for the soul.”
We extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Children’s Hospital LA, the volunteers who helped coordinate logistics and safety, and every rider who showed up with heart, costume, and courage. Your presence made a difference.
And the night didn’t end there. From the hospital, we rolled straight into the electric chaos of Hollywood Boulevard, where the real Halloween madness was in full swing. Costumed crowds, music, and spontaneous dance parties turned the boulevard into a living, breathing celebration—and we were right in the middle of it, wheels spinning and spirits high.
After soaking in the energy of Hollywood, we continued west to our main break area at Pan Pacific Park in Beverly Grove, where the party officially kicked off. With DJ Vicious on the decks, the Halloween costume party came alive—music thumping, lights flashing, and riders dancing under the stars. The night reached its peak with a costume contest, where three standout participants took home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place honors for their creativity, flair, and full-throttle commitment to the theme.
As we roll into the final months of 2025, let’s carry this spirit forward. Whether it’s through themed rides, community partnerships, or spontaneous acts of kindness, LA Critical Mass remains committed to building a city where everyone is seen, celebrated, and supported.
See you on the next ride.
And remember: when we ride together, we rise together.
