The first ride for 2025 was amazing!

The first ride of the year attendance was amazing. Participants started gathering earlier than expected but the turnout was huge! With the masses engulfing the streets of Los Angeles, #LACriticalmass January 2025 was an instant hit!

Destination: Downtown L.A.

This year’s first ride for 2025 was impressive. While the attendance was huge, the celebration began with the thousands swarming on Western and Wilshire Blvd patiently waiting for the lead car to make it’s presence.

The January Critical Mass in Los Angeles saw thousands of participants, undeterred by the chilly weather, coming together to celebrate this exciting event.

KOREATOWN

Everyone was excited to start pedaling for the January 2025 ride. Familiar smiling faces emerged from the masses, while first-timers eagerly awaited their inaugural experience at L.A. Critical Mass.

Although this month’s ride began late, it allowed ample time for latecomers to join in, and they arrived in droves.

The ride route kicked off down Western toward Pico. Once the lead car made that left turn on Pico toward downtown, our regulars recognized we were heading into DTLA.

What a fantastic time of the year to ride through the heart of downtown Los Angeles in the late evening!

DTLA

Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) is renowned for its cultural landmarks, historic architecture, and vibrant entertainment scene. Iconic sites like the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Broad Museum showcase stunning design and contemporary art, and the Bradbury Building reflects the city’s architectural heritage. These iconic landmarks were LACM’s destination for the mid-point of the ride.

Before reaching our mid-point destination in Downtown Los Angeles, the route took us past the Crypto Arena, LA Live and the Staples Center. These stunning architectural landmarks provided a picturesque backdrop for the thousands of participants enjoying the ride.

Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) boasts a vibrant culinary scene, highlighted by a range of diverse restaurants and food markets, including the renowned Grand Central Market. As a hotspot for innovation and startups, DTLA draws in businesses and creative thinkers. The area’s appeal is further enhanced by public spaces like Pershing Square and the Arts District, attracting both locals and visitors. Additionally, its position as a key transportation hub improves accessibility, reinforcing DTLA’s status as a lively center of culture and commerce in Los Angeles.

From Pico we made a turned left onto the iconic Figueroa Street, making our way to the DTLA tunnels. We made a right straight directly into the 2nd street tunnel making our way to the Union Station.

The riders of L.A. Critical Mass have a special love for navigating through tunnels, where the atmosphere transforms into one of pure joy. As the masses rides together, participants shout with glee, their voices echoing in unison, creating a vibrant ensemble that celebrates everyone’s collective spirit. Riding through these tunnels becomes a highlight of the experience, amplifying the excitement and camaraderie among us.

Having the opportunity to pass by this historical landmark, dating back to the early 20th century, provided a memorable sight for many first-timers on the ride, enriching their experience with a glimpse of the city’s history.

Los Angeles Union Station, often called the “Last of the Great Railway Stations,” is a stunning architectural landmark in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Opened in 1939, it features a blend of Spanish Colonial Revival and Art Deco styles, characterized by striking tile work, vaulted ceilings, and beautiful stained glass windows. The grand waiting room, with its high ceilings and intricate tile patterns, creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. As a major transportation hub, Union Station has played a crucial role in the city’s development, connecting Los Angeles to various regions across the country. The exterior is adorned with lush gardens and courtyards, providing a serene environment amidst the bustling city. Beyond its transit functions, Union Station serves as a cultural hub, hosting events, art exhibitions, and activities that enrich the community. It remains a vital piece of Los Angeles history and continues to be an important gateway for travelers, linking them to the city’s rich cultural tapestry.
