Los Angeles Critical Mass is calling for enthusiastic volunteers to help us ensure a safe and enjoyable ride for everyone. We are specifically looking for Ride Marshals to assist in managing our upcoming events.

What is Critical Mass?

Critical Mass is the largest community bicycle ride in the United States. It celebrates cycling culture by uniting thousands of participants of all skill levels as they ride through Metro Los Angeles and its surrounding areas.

Why We Need Ride Marshals

As a Ride Marshal, you’ll play a crucial role in:

• Ensuring Safety: Help maintain order and safety during the ride.
• Guiding Participants: Direct riders along the route and provide assistance as needed.
• Creating a Positive Atmosphere: Encourage camaraderie and fun among participants.

Volunteer Responsibilities

• Arrive early to the event for briefing and preparation.
• Help set up the starting area and distribute materials.
• Lead and follow the ride, ensuring that all participants stay together.
• Communicate with riders and respond to any issues that arise during the ride.

Benefits of Volunteering

• Ride Marshal Gear: All Ride Marshals will receive a special shirt and a Ride Marshal vest to wear during events.
• Bi-Weekly Meetings: Participate in our bi-weekly meetings where we discuss upcoming events, share ideas, and build community.
• Pre-Ride Practices: Join us for pre-rides to familiarize yourself with the routes and ride together with fellow ride marshals and staff.

Requirements

• A passion for cycling and community engagement.
• Ability to ride a bike comfortably in a group setting.
• Good communication skills and a friendly demeanor.
• Previous experience with other rides is a plus, but not required.
