A Call to the Entire Southern California Cycling Community
Calling all cyclists, bike clubs, bike crews, advocacy groups, and participants from Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, Orange County, Ventura County, and beyond. This is not just another LA Critical Mass. This is a must-attend ride.
This month, we are dedicating LA Critical Mass to Bobby, Rumor, and Peter Martinez.
Last month, we came together in mourning during our Die-In to honor cyclists whose lives were taken by traffic violence. We gathered to remember, reflect, and demand change.
Now, just one month later, we find ourselves mourning yet again.
We are heartbroken.
We are angry.
And we are tired.
Tired of preventable deaths.
Tired of preventable crashes.
Tired of receiving phone calls that another cyclist has been seriously injured or killed.
Tired of watching families have their lives changed forever because someone didn’t value the life of a person riding a bicycle.
This month, LA Critical Mass will make a statement that cannot be ignored.
We are calling on every cyclist, every bike club, every bike crew, and every supporter of safer streets to stand with us and attend this month’s LA Critical Mass as thousands ride together in remembrance, solidarity, and action.
Mourning the Loss of Bobby and Rumor
The Los Angeles cycling community is grieving the tragic loss of Bobby and Rumor, two beloved members of our cycling family who were struck and killed while riding in Montclair.
For those who knew them, they were more than cyclists. They were family.
Rumor was a familiar face near the front of LA Critical Mass, often riding near the lead vehicle. She was always smiling, always bringing positive energy, and always helping create the welcoming atmosphere that makes LA Critical Mass special.
Bobby was equally unforgettable. Whether he was posing for photos or smiling for the camera, he carried a spirit that brought joy to those around him. His smile was a fixture of our rides and a reflection of how much he loved being part of this community.
Their loss has devastated our community.
Bobby should still be with us.
Rumor should still be with us.
Instead, we are left grieving two lives taken far too soon and wondering how many more names will be added to a list that continues to grow.
Our Prayers Are With Peter Martinez
As we mourn Bobby and Rumor, we are also praying for Peter Martinez, who is currently fighting for his life in the ICU at UC Irvine Medical Center.
Peter suffered catastrophic injuries, including a broken back, after being struck and left for dead. He remains in critical condition as doctors continue to provide lifesaving care. Peter is the sole provider for his family.
His wife has been in communication with members of the LA Critical Mass family, and the heartbreak, fear, and uncertainty they are experiencing is unimaginable.
At this time, the family has made one simple request to the LA Critical Mass family and the cycling community:
Pray for Peter.
That is all they are asking.
Pray for healing.
Pray for strength.
Pray for comfort.
Pray for his recovery.
Pray for his family as they navigate one of the most difficult moments of their lives.
As a community, we ask every cyclists, every bike club, every bike crew, and every supporter to lift Peter and his family up in prayer.

We Are Stricken With Grief
At LA Critical Mass, we are stricken with grief.
Within a matter of weeks, our community has suffered devastating loss and life-altering injury.
We are mourning Bobby.
We are mourning Rumor.
And we are praying for Peter.
No community should have to endure this much pain in such a short period of time. Yet here we are once again preparing to ride in memory of friends who should still be riding alongside us.
Traffic violence is not just a statistic.
These are real people.
Real families.
Real lives.
Real heartbreak.
Enough is enough.
Join Us As We Make a Statement
This month’s LA Critical Mass is more than a ride.
It is a memorial.
It is a prayer ride.
It is a show of unity.
And it is a demand for change.
Once again, we are asking cyclists, bike clubs, bike crews, advocacy organizations from Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, Orange County, Ventura County, and beyond to stand with us and join us.
Show up.
Ride together.
Stand together.
Make your presence known. Let the families of Bobby, Rumor, and Peter know they are not alone.
Let elected officials know that cyclists deserve safer streets.
Let the public know that we will not quietly accept preventable deaths and devastating injuries as normal.
This month, we ride for Bobby.
We ride for Rumor.
We ride for Peter.
We ride for every cyclist who has lost their life.
We ride for every family left behind.
And we ride together as one community.
This is a must-attend LA Critical Mass.
